In June, AFM visited Zambia to reconnect with stakeholders. AFM’s work in Zambia has been on hold since the Covid-19 pandemic and we are grateful to return to Zambia to discover new possibilities of engaging with the fire service. José Ngunjiri, Fire Safety Officer, and Mike Kull, Programs Director, engaged with local stakeholders to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive Fire Training Program. Collaboration with these stakeholders is integral to the success of our initiatives, as it allows us to utilize local expertise and resources effectively.
We were extremely grateful to be warmly welcomed back to Zambia. During this trip, key meetings were held with several important organizations. These groups included the Fire Service Association of Zambia, the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development, Zambia Airports Corporation, limited, Zambia Air Service Training Institute, Zambia Civil Aviation Authority, Eden University, Campaign for a Fire Free Zambia, and the Lusaka Fire Brigade. In each interaction, we found leaders eager to enhance the capacity and capabilities of the Fire Service in Zambia. These discussions were encouraging and marked the rekindling of what promises to be a fruitful partnership aimed at advancing fire safety, community fire prevention and sensitization, and emergency response in the region. Africa Fire Mission is excited to continue our work collaborating with firefighters throughout Zambia in the coming year.
We are planning a Team Training Mission Trip to Zambia in October 2025. If you are interested in more details, visit Join a Mission.
